An EV that twice set the lap record for electric cars at the Refuel electric road races can be yours — if you’ve got a cool quarter million. The KleenSpeed WX10 prototype, developed with West Racecars and drven by KleenSpeed founder and president Timothy Collins, averaged 94 mph over the 2.24-mile, 11-turn course at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. That topped last year’s record of 93 mph, also set by the WX10. KleenSpeed attributed...

From designer Andrus Ciprian comes the Honda Pegasus, a curious combination of retro design and an anachronistic powerplant. Ciprian, from Romania, might be the only CGI-jockey we’ve seen whose portfolio includes a Hummer dune buggy , a pony car Dacia and a shapely Mazda . His eclectic taste would make us fans even if his designs weren’t at all interesting. Ah. But they are. Ciprian is pushing the envelope with the Pegasus. It’s...

An Australian concept car hyped as being worth $2.6 million fell far down under auctioneers’ estimates when it sold for a mere $307,000 . The Holden HSV HRT 427 coupe, a supercar concept based on the Holden Monaro, was the showpiece of Cairns-based businessman Shawn “Chooka” Ryan’s collection. He wasn’t parting with the car out of boredom: Two of Ryan’s businesses were in receivership and Ryan was forced to...

With three wheels and four tires, the new GT3 concept from T3 Motion is already an automotive oddity. So why’d they have to make it look like a post-war bubble car ? T3 Motion is best known for their Electric Standup Vehicles (ESVs) and microcars . They’ve almost gone full-size with the GT3, a plug-in EV powered by lithium-polymer batteries. It’s got a top speed of 70 mph, has a range of 80-100 miles and is expected to sell...

General Motors rolled into the Beijing auto show with a crossover utility vehicle based on the Chevrolet Volt range-extended electric vehicle we’ll see at the end of the year. It’s just a concept, but the odds are good we’ll see it in showrooms. The Chevrolet Volt MPV5 is essentially a Chevrolet Volt stretched and squared to accommodate five people and more cargo. It’s a little bigger than the Volt in all dimensions,...

Sure, it’s meant to go on sand, but the Dune Tracer concept is about as far from a day at the beach as a vehicle could possibly be. One look at its menacing tracks, its chrome rear fenders and single-seat open cockpit and you know this buggy is meant to be outfitted with automatic weapons in some end-of-days, dystopian nightmare. That’s why it’s so freakin’ awesome. From diseno-art.com — the same folks who brought...

A Chinese automaker has taken every half-baked idea anyone’s ever had for eco-friendlier motoring and used them all in a wild concept car, the laws of physics be damned. Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. is rolling into the Expo 2010 Shanghai China with the Ye Zi — literally, “Leaf” — concept that’s topped with a plastic leaf, runs on renewable energy and somehow emits oxygen, making it the world’s...
