Protoscar Lampo 2 EV: Fast, Ugly, And Awkwardly Named

February 8th, 2010 admin

For many years, electric cars didn’t look so much like cars, as they did… well… they didn’t much look like anything anyone would want to drive. I never understood half-covering the rear-wheels (that has never been cool) or the funky lines and shapes electric cars inevitably filled out. And so, in recent years, electric cars have begun to look more like… well… cars. Whether or not this is a good thing is up to you, but Protoscar apparently thinks electric cars should look funky. Hence the undramatic unveiling of the Protoscar Lampo 2. An awkward name for an awkward car that actually has some impressive features, like a ten-minute charge good for about 60 miles and a 0-62 mph …

You Can’t Unsee This Ugly EV
You Can’t Unsee This Ugly EV
To hear the specs, the Lampo2 electric vehicle is sexy as hell: prodigious power, tremendous torque and respectable range. But it all goes bad quickly when you actually see the car. Seriously. Just look at this thing. Swiss EV dabblers Protoscar took the reasonably attractive, if somewhat quirky, Lampo EV concept we drove and made it look like...
Geneva 2010: Protoscar Lampo 2
As the Geneva previews keep coming, the theme seems to be making itself clearer and clearer: environmentally friendly motoring. Whilst this doesn’t normally get us excited, there are a few variants of ‘green’ cars that do stick out to us though. Whilst the design is rather off-putting, the mechanics and power are of interest. Power...

30-Minute EV Fast Charging Stations Coming In 3Q Of 2010
Right now, refilling your electric vehicle is quite a timely process. Even the best EV charging systems can take several hours to fully charge a depleted battery, and while this might be fine and dandy for commuter cars, it makes living with an electric car as a daily driver a bit more difficult. But fast charging stations are coming, and could...
EV Corridor Links LA and San Fran, “Fast” Charging Still Relative
EV Corridor Links LA and San Fran, “Fast” Charging Still Relative
The biggest limitation on electric cars , as we know, are the batteries. They take hours to charge, and cannot travel nearly as far as gas-powered engines. So while California may be the center of the “green movement,” traveling the almost 400 miles between Los Angeles and San Francisco is impossible on electric power.  Read More →

BMW Reveals Awkwardly-Named Plug-In Hybrid Concept Car
I’ve always been of the mindset that fuel efficiency and performance do not have to be mutually exclusive. A new concept car from BMW pursues that ideology, blending almost 600 ft-lbs of torque with a 62.6 mile-per-gallon fuel efficiency. Called (take a deep breath) the Vision EfficiencyDynamics turbodiesel plug-in hybrid concept, it combines...

Aptera’s Odds of Federal Funding Looking Up
The odds that Uncle Sam will help Aptera Motors build the funky 2e improved a bit when the House of Representatives approved legislation making three-wheelers eligible for those loans the Department of Energy is giving automakers. Although the 2e electric car reportedly goes 100 miles on a charge, recharges in as little as four hours and could...

Quirky EV is Made with Bamboo and Paper
So, clearly, this little car is not meant for the mass market of the United States. It resembles a traditional rickshaw, but the Meguru is an electric car made of bamboo, steel and paper. It has a range of 25 miles per charge, and a top speed of 25 mph. It’s lithium battery takes two hours to charge. The frame is made of steel, the floor...
