January 13th, 2010 admin

Capacity of Texas, Inc. has teamed up with L.A.-based Vision Industries to create a hydrogen fuel cell-powered terminal tractor that can haul cargo around busy ports with zero emissions. Named ZETT and based on the company’s earlier partial hybrid terminal tractor , the new tractor will be able to carry containers for two full eight-hour shifts…

Have a Coke and a Fuel Cell
Nissan’s making a big bet on electric vehicles like the Leaf, but it’s still pushing hydrogen as one fuel of the future. The Japanese automaker is leasing one — yes, one — fuel cell vehicle to Sacramento Coca-Cola Bottling Co. The move is part R&D exercise for Nissan and part marketing ploy for Coca-Cola, which will...

The Governator Introduces Short Haul Fuel Cell Semi-Truck
Trucking is among the most important, yet polluting parts of our environment. Everything everywhere was delivered by a truck, unless you live on a farm. A necessary evil, if you will. Getting truckers on board with the green movement will play an integral part in the widespread acceptance of alternative fuel vehicles. To do that, you’ve...

Toyota May Offer $50,000 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car By 2015
The way I see it, hydrogen fuel is the real fuel of the future. It sounds almost too good to be true; clean, abundant, and the only emissions is a little H20. Of course, most hydrogen is made from natural gas right now, but that could change in the future. Also, the whole lack of infrastructure and high cost of hydrogen cars has made automakers...
Meet The Fastest Trucker In The World
Why is Boije Ovebrink smiling? Because he just set a new, FIA sanctioned land speed record for tractor-trailers in his specially prepared Volvo. Averaging 81.32 miles per hour for 500 meters and 103.58 miles per hour for a full kilometer (averaged speeds), Ovebrink crossed the finish…  Read More →

DOE Grants $187 Million To Improve Fuel Efficiency Of Long Haul Trucks
Pretty much everything in America, at some point (and often multiple points) hitches a ride on a tractor trailer of some sort. It doesn’t matter if it is locally grown organic produce or the latest and greatest Chinese-built computer. By the time it has arrived at your home, it’s probably been on one of these big, smelly beasts. Improving...

Toyota Aims for $50,000 Fuel-Cell Car by 2015
Toyota says it has cut the cost of building fuel-cell vehicles by 90 percent and could sell its first hydrogen vehicle for $50,000 by 2015. That’s still a big chunk of change, but a bargain compared to the six- or seven-figure price tags the cars are generally thought to cost now. The exorbitant cost has been among the technology’s...
Report: Porsche to campaign 918 Spyder at 2011 24-hour Nurburgring race
Perhaps further validating earlier reports that Porsche is considering a limited production run of its 918 Spyder show car, the German automaker is said to be readying a version of the hybrid supercar for next year’s 24-hour Nurburgring race. The 24-hour Nurburgring race is often…  Read More →

CarGo: an Adaptable Transformer Design for a Crosstown Messenger Service
Here’s a transformer idea for city messenger services from design student Adam Schacter . This tiny EV would carry small cargo loads efficiently in its upright mode. In that configuration, the vehicle would be able to fit three to a parking space. But for days when you had a larger load, you’d simply flip down the back and pull it...
