EV Corridor Links LA and San Fran, “Fast” Charging Still Relative

September 25th, 2009 admin

The biggest limitation on electric cars , as we know, are the batteries. They take hours to charge, and cannot travel nearly as far as gas-powered engines. So while California may be the center of the “green movement,” traveling the almost 400 miles between Los Angeles and San Francisco is impossible on electric power.

30-Minute EV Fast Charging Stations Coming In 3Q Of 2010
Right now, refilling your electric vehicle is quite a timely process. Even the best EV charging systems can take several hours to fully charge a depleted battery, and while this might be fine and dandy for commuter cars, it makes living with an electric car as a daily driver a bit more difficult. But fast charging stations are coming, and could...

Fast-Charging Electric Buses Come To SoCal
I know we have a lot of readers from Southern California. Sure the weather is great, and the people are generally friendly, but for me it is just too crowded and congested to ever call home. Plus, for such a progressive place, there is a surprising lack of good public transportation. Then again, California has been making big strides towards electric...

Our Journey Toward Public EV Quick-Charging Begins
VACAVILLE, California — The longest journey starts with a single step, the saying goes, and our first step toward a public EV quick-charge infrastructure has been taken in a small city north of San Francisco. Vacaville is the first city in the United States to install a public DC quick-charge (aka Level 3) station. The 50-kilowatt charger,...

Protoscar Lampo 2 EV: Fast, Ugly, And Awkwardly Named
For many years, electric cars didn’t look so much like cars, as they did… well… they didn’t much look like anything anyone would want to drive. I never understood half-covering the rear-wheels (that has never been cool) or the funky lines and shapes electric cars inevitably filled out. And so, in recent years, electric...

Let’s Have Tea While Charging Our EV
One of the big hurdles to the widespread adoption of electric vehicles is the time it takes to charge the battery. So-called “quick chargers” that can get you going in as little as 20 minutes are the best solution to that problem, and Japanese automakers want to standardize the technology. Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Fuji Heavy...
